The Girls’ Self Defence Project Aotearoa New Zealand provides:
- A completely free eight hour self defence course for Year 7-8 girls
- A completely free five hour self defence course for Year 3-4 girls and Year 10-11-12 girls
These courses are to equip girls with the skills and strategies to keep safe. The courses have been especially designed for each age group. Project courses are usually run in a school context in school hours.

- Integrated schools
- Kura kaupapa and bilingual units
- Urban schools
- Rural schools
We have some availability of teachers competent in Te Reo.
All Project courses are taught by accredited women instructors from the Women’s Self Defence Network — Wāhine Toa.
The project currently reaches approximately 5,000 girls per year.
